About TLC's The 7-Step Program

For over 30 years Trial Lawyers College has been committed to training a new breed of lawyer - a warrior who has the courage to become a real person, unique and authentic. Having made that journey, our training empowers the attorney to connect to their client's emotional truth in a powerful way. Guided by a skilled faculty team, students are transformed into reliable narrators, armed to fight for justice in their own passionate voice -- a voice different from all the others.

WHAT IS THE 7-STEP PROGRAM?
The Trial Lawyers College is proud of its unique training based upon psychodrama. TLC is also proud of its uniqueness from other lawyer courses in that those who have graduated from the college join a Warrior family of alumni. Unfortunately, there are some lawyers who cannot carve out 3 weeks to attend the college. Knowing this, TLC offers the ability for a trial lawyer for the people to graduate through a 7-step program.

Step by Step
To complete your application:
- Be prepared to provide the name, telephone number and email address for 3 references
- Be prepared to upload an 850-word essay
In 850 words or less, please tell us a bit about yourself. For example, what life experiences have most shaped you? What is your greatest accomplishment and what is  your greatest loss? Please tell us about your dreams and your failures. We are not interested in the name of your law school, the clubs you belong to, your golf handicap, or your financial and social  success. We are interested in learning something about you as a person. We want to know your life goals as a trial lawyer, as well as what you hope to obtain from attending our program.
Your completed application will be reviewed, and you will be notified as to whether you have been accepted.
Once accepted, a student will be eligible to graduate upon the following conditions if done within 5 years of acceptance into the 7-step program.

Trulli Putting  Stories into Action for your Clients

Putting Stories in Action with psychodrama teaches lawyers how to keep the human factor as part of the equation during trial and how to apply it to each trial skill. Trial lawyers are placed in small groups to learn about each other and themselves in order to become more aware of our differences and similarities. This knowledge will strengthen storytelling techniques to make courtroom presentations more persuasive.

Psychodrama has been defined as the search for truth in dramatic action.  Unless one knows something of oneself, it is impossible to know much about the jurors, the judge, and the witnesses.

Discovering the Story - The Art Beyond Trial Skills
Trial skills are only part of being a force in the courtroom. The trial lawyers’ power originates from within. Knowledge of oneself gives the lawyer the capability to know others and to connect with each person in the courtroom including the witnesses, the judge and the jurors. The power of TLC’s methods come alive through creative, spontaneous, outside-the-box innovations that capture juries and move them to justice.

The TLC Method for Voir Dire trains trial lawyers to identify jurors who are favorable to the themes and objectives of the lawyer’s case, to develop powerful questioning techniques to uncover juror biases and attitudes and to build rapport with potential jurors to establish trust and credibility using the power of psychodramatic tools.

The TLC Method for Opening Statement trains trial lawyers to forge an honest relationship with the jury by giving a genuine voice to the client’s story and avoid damaging pitfalls to deliver a winning Opening Statement using the power of psychodramatic tools.

The TLC Method for Direct Examination trains trial lawyers to learn their client’s story and then bring their client’s story to life in a powerful way through their own witnesses. The lawyers will learn to recognize and avoid pitfalls of Direct Examination to deliver a powerful message to win justice for the client.

The TLC Method for Cross Examination trains trial lawyers to apply the psychodramatic methods that improve listening skills and therefore the ability to understand and empathize with everyone in the courtroom, including opposing witness.  The TLC Method provides trial attorneys the rare and important opportunity to not only build credibility but also transform an opposing  witness into a witness for their client.

The TLC Method for Closing Argument combined with the psychodramatic method teaches attorneys how to win justice for their clients by connecting their client's story, their loss and pain to those in a jury and courtroom.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
Given the high cost of providing courses at easily accessible venues nationwide and those venues’ strict cancellation policies, TLC has had to make changes to its cancellation policy. To lessen the impact of this change in policy on our tribe, we offer the following options:
1. In the case where a student needs to cancel, they have 31 days prior to the course to cancel and receive a full refund. If it is after the 31-day deadline, to receive a full refund they may contact Brooklyn@triallawyerscollege.org with the name of a replacement student who is prepared to take their place. This is especially important to cover the cost of the committed lodging. After the replacement student completes registration including full payment, a full refund will be processed.
2. If no replacement is found for their reserved spot prior to the program, we will apply 50% of the paid tuition as a credit towards a future program, to be used within one year, and use the other 50% towards the unused lodging expense of the course cancelled. If you have any questions, please contact Brooklyn@triallawyerscollege.org.
